I'm never quite sure whether to call this the new "collection" or not, because Catrice can offer a temporary trend collection or add something to its line. I think I should be saying New Line Review, but no one says that! So, now and then, Catrice removes some of its products of which you though they would stay there forever. And before you know it, the entire counter looks different. This week Catrice added more mascaras, new blush, new foundadtion and a whole lot of new Prime and Fine products. Most of them cost around 5 euros, so I'm not sure if you can still call Catrice a budget brand. I think it is becoming something like Rimmel. If you still want budget, you need to go to Essence, ELF or 2B. I think Essence and Catrice are under the same company, like L'Oreal and Maybelline, only the first one is a bit more mature and needs a bit more quality. Anyway, I'm not complaing. Their products are quite good and they have a lot of choice. The only thing I've ever been conserned about are the eyeshadow quads they are selling up to this point, which started to burn on my eyelid. Not that I got an allergic reaction. It was just surprising seeing I've been using eyeshadow all my life.
So my eye spotted a range of beautiful new products and although I had told myself the other day that I've got enough makeup to "feed" a whole girls dorm, I just couldn't help myself. Some of these products are simply brilliant:
1. Prime and Fine Highlighting Powder
As I was getting tired of getting sticky glittery gel on my fingers and uneven results on my face from mixing highlighting creams on top of my foundation and powder, I started to look for a budget highlighting powder. By coincidence Catrice has now come out with one. This one has a goldness to it, but you can barely see it. It's quite fine (I can never complain about the texture of Catrice powders), and it gives a nice, even, subtle glow. Great for the bridge of your nose, forehead, chin and cheek bones!
2. Prime and Fine Illuminating base
Catrice is picking up the radiance trend, I see. Now, products like these need a certain lightness and freshness, and Catrice isn't exactly known for its wonderful bases and liquid foundation. Nevertheless, it's the only illuminating base you'll find at the drugstore (other brands only offer BB creams, clear bases or illuminating concealers, of which the latter I find too heavy to put underneath foundation). On the back it said it was enriched with vitamins A, C and E. I didn't know it was necessary to apply vitamines on your skin (apart from scars), since when your skin absorbs them into your blood it will only transport them to somewhere else. Nevertheless they might end up in your skin from within, like most vitamins do. It just seems wrong to me to let the skin of the face do all the work. The substance is light and has a subtle shimmer. It does feel like something that would give a lovely glow underneath dull mousse foundation. I don't know why it smells of those peach slices in candy form.
3. Defining blush
Catrice is finally coming up with new blushes after those duo blushes. A bit disappointing though, the colors seem to be exactly the same. I didn't buy any. Still hoping that somehow the marvelous Nivea Blush by Chantall Thomas will ever come back...but seeing Nivea is being taken out of the racks...I better forget about that gorgeous, cushion shaped ultra sexy hot pink shimmery glowing blush :'(
4. Absolute Moisture foundation
I never buy budget foundation (it's called foundation for a reason, it needs to be solid!). Also, something called absolute moisture should be on the lips, not on the skin! I'm sure I'd break out in a second, which usually happens with Catrice.
5. Lip Glow
Like I announced in a previous post, Catrice has come up with its own version of L'Oreals Studio Secrets Universal Lip Colour. I tried it on the back of my hand and it did turn from clear to pink. I guess it could be nice for when you're in a hurry and have no idea which lipstick to match with your dress. Just slick on the lovely balm and watch your lips glow. Love it! I couldn't buy it because it was sold out!
6. Glamour Doll Volume Mascara
I love the tube of this mascara. Almost as nice as a highstreet brand (the price as well: almost 5 euros). The brush is a fine piramid with many thin plastic combs to give you "doll eyes" (reminds me of another mascara, I think it was Bourjois, but I absolutely despise that brand). Doll eyes have long black shiney lashes that give them a flirty look. As you can see I tried it on my bare eye and it actually worked well. Shame it doesn't come in a waterproof version. But like a beauty guru on YouTube once said: if you can, wear non waterproof mascara, as it gives a much lighter effect, sticks your lashes together far less than a waterproof mascara and is far more easy to remove. So all in all I'm quite pleased with this mascara. I never much liked the plane round tubes from Catrice (the yellow one for extra length and the silver ones with gigantic brushes, Lash Plus it was called). I do recommend this one!
